Contextualisation Gone Mad?...

During a recent trip to Thailand I came across some innovative and boundary pushing missionaries from New Song church in LA.

They were wonderfully refreshing people and willing to ask hard questions about context and gospel.

They spoke to me about the 'New Buddhism', the term they use for the gospel planted in buddhist cultures.

Here is the article they sent me.

What do you think?!

Although I agree that we need to remove the western cultural messages that pollute the gospel in a missions setting, I cringe at the name of it: 'New BUDDHISM'.

Makes me think of the verse that says that Jesus is the only way to the father, and the one that says that under no other name we can be saved.

There must be another name we can call it, maybe the biblical names: The Way, the disciples, etc... Otherwise, we'd have a hard time getting missions donations :)

Thanks for the link, I need to read it more in depth when I'm finished my exams.

I have a Thai girlfriend she's Christian, but her family isn't. We really want to present Jesus to them as much as possible... without bringing too much Western baggage with that.
